Residents loot after cash-in-transit heist on the N2

The N2 near Chesterville was closed after a cash-in-transit heist sparked a major police response, with paramedics treating injured personnel.

THE N2 national freeway was closed off for hours last night (Monday, February 2) by SAPS and Metro police following a cash-in-transit heist.

Garrith Jamieson, ALS Paramedics spokesperson, said authorities responded to numerous calls for medical assistance at a cash-in-transit robbery on the N2 north bound near Chesterville, just outside the Durban CBD.

“Paramedics arrived after SAPS had made the scene safe and found hundreds of members of the public looting money on the ground.”

Jamieson said the looters were quickly dispersed by SAPS and paramedics were shown to two security personnel who were in the vehicle at the time of the robbery.

“Paramedics assessed the two men and one of them had sustained minor to moderate injuries as a result of the explosion and he was treated by ALS Paramedics,” reported Jamieson.
