MOTORSPORT fans have been holding their breath in anticipation of autocross and drifting action in Durban, but on March 1 the wait is over, as a day of high-octane thrills, smoky drifts and non-stop motorsport action awaits.

From 08:00 to 17:00 The Centrum, in Durban’s CBD, will roar to life with The Drive Series: Inauguration, which promises to be the ultimate Durban autocross and drifting competition. Presented by Joey-G Drift School, over 30 skilled drivers will battle the clock, and the thrill will be real. Each driver will complete two qualifying runs, followed by driver seeding, before the final showdown for the fastest autocross time ignites the tarmac.

Durban’s own drifting stars include host and national competitor Joey Govender (Joey-G) with is Nissan 200SX, Mark Goodall in his BMW drift car, youngest drifter JJ Govender (20) also in a Nissan 200SX, Jeremy O’Neil in his Nissan 200SX, and Paolo Gouveia with his custom-built Nissan 200SX.

Bringing the action from Johannesburg are 10 drivers from The Torque Titans of Rock Raceway, ready to showcase their skills and push the heat further in this drifting competition.

The event also features drifting demonstrations and spinning exhibitions, with smoky tyre showmanship guaranteed to thrill spectators. If you need to take a break from the action there will be plenty of refreshment and merchandise stands, and you can explore the cars on display at the Parkoff area.

Tickets range from R50-R100 for general spectators, with Parkoff tickets at R150, which includes entrance for the car and driver.
