Pinetown SAPS arrest murder suspect
Police say the shooting incident, believed to be drug-related, occurred at Motala Farm, Westmead, on the morning of Thursday, February 26.
ONE suspect was arrested in Motala last Thursday following a fatal shooting incident the police believe was drug-related.
Pinetown SAPS communications officer Jennifer Naidu said the suspect, who was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm, was arrested alongside another who was found in possession of drugs.
Naidu said the arrest came after Warrant Officer Desan Pillay, Sector 3 Commander for Pinetown SAPS, responded to reports of a shooting in Motala Farm, Westmead, on the morning of February 26.
“Upon arrival, the officer was informed that the victim had already been transported to hospital with gunshot wounds,” said Naidu, who added that the victim later succumbed to their injuries.
The responding officer, said Naidu, obtained intelligence on the whereabouts of the alleged shooter and swiftly located them at a nearby drug den suspected to be used by local dealers operating in the area.
“Using drone technology, members obtained visual confirmation of the suspect’s location. Teams strategically surrounded the hill near an abandoned house where the suspect was hiding.

“In a co-ordinated tactical approach, members moved in on the location. The suspect, along with another, attempted to flee but ran directly into officers positioned to intercept them,” said Naidu.
Naidu said the successful operation highlighted “the strong collaboration and dedication of law enforcement and private security partners in combating crime”.
Following the arrests, the police thanked stakeholders, which included Westville SAPS, AX Solutions, V Guard Security, Team Med SSS and Blue Security.
“The continued co-operation between these roleplayers demonstrates a united front against violent crimes in our communities,” said Naidu.
Pinetown SAPS acting station commander, Colonel Ronnie Heeralall, applauded members for their outstanding work which resulted in the arrest.
Heeralall commended the professionalism, dedication, and swift action of the officers and other roleplayers.
