Car theft gang busted in Westville
Police say the vehicle theft syndicate was operating in Westville, Pinetown, Chatsworth, Malvern, Hillcrest and surrounding areas.
THE Westville SAPS reported a major bust of a vehicle theft syndicate, which resulted in the arrest of three suspects.

The station’s communications officer, Sergeant Zwelethu Khathi, said on Saturday, February 28, the Westville SAPS crime prevention team, working with Mobi-Claw911, intercepted and apprehended three vehicle theft suspects operating in Westville, Pinetown, Chatsworth, Malvern, Hillcrest and surrounding areas.
“At approximately 10:15 Saturday morning, the above members spotted a vehicle wanted for several theft of motor vehicles that was travelling on St James Road in the Westville area.
“Upon noticing the SAPS members, the suspects attempted to evade arrest by fleeing at high speed, endangering other road users in the process.

“The pursuit led to a high-speed chase, with the suspects driving against traffic flow on Spine Road towards The Pavilion Shopping Centre. Despite the suspects’ reckless manoeuvres, the team managed to cut the vehicle off on Spine Road.
“Upon searching the suspects’ vehicle, the SAPS discovered multiple car break-in implements used to break into and steal vehicles. The suspects’ vehicle was found to be fitted with cloned number plates.
“The three suspects, along with the confiscated evidence, have been taken to Westville SAPS for further investigation. Additionally these suspects are possibly linked to numerous theft of motor vehicle cases in the Westville, Pinetown, Chatsworth, Malvern and Hillcrest areas,” said Khathi.
Station Commander, Colonel Sharon Zamantungwa Sihlangu, applauded the members for their excellent work and encouraged them to continue arresting the car thieves that have been terrorising the area.
