Soccer player robbed and assaulted in Pinetown
It is alleged that the professional soccer player was assaulted by suspects who allegedly set dogs on him and robbed him of his belongings.
A PROFESSIONAL soccer player was allegedly robbed and assaulted on Tuesday morning (March 10) and has reportedly been hospitalised.
It is alleged that the soccer player was robbed of a watch, cellphone and wallet during the incident on the corner of Anderson Road and Kings Road in Pinetown.
It is alleged that the soccer player was assaulted by unknown suspects who set dogs on him during the incident at about 04:00.
The Pinetown SAPS have confirmed that a case of common robbery is being investigated following the incident.
The station’s communications officer, Jennifer Naidu, said it is reported that the soccer player had been seated outside of his residence with friends when they noticed three unknown men “moving suspiciously near the premises”.

“When he went to investigate, it is alleged that the suspects became violent. Upon confronting the individuals, the complainant observed that the suspects were escalating in aggression and attempted to flee. The suspects allegedly caught up with him, assaulted him, and robbed him of a wristwatch valued at approximately R1000, a cellphone valued at about R3000, and a wallet.
“The victim sustained injuries during the incident and was transported to hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
“Video footage of the incident is available, and police are reviewing it as part of ongoing investigations.
“No arrests have been made at this stage. Investigations are ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact SAPS Pinetown Detective Constable Mlungisi Zikalala on 063 137 9594,” said Naidu.
