Courts come alive at Waterfall College basketball tourney

The principal says the college looks forward to seeing basketball continue to grow as a sport within the school community.

WATERFALL College proudly celebrated the official launch of basketball at the school with an exciting interschool tournament on Saturday, March 7.

With the school’s brand-new basketball courts and newly-introduced first team basketball kit, the day marked a significant milestone in the growth of sport at Waterfall College.

Schools that joined the tournament included St Nicholas, Wartburg, Brettonwood, George Campbell, Queensburgh and Eden College.

The courts were buzzing with energy as learner athletes, families, educators and members of the local community gathered for a day filled with sportsmanship, teamwork and healthy competition.

St Nicholas won the U16 tournament and Brettonwood took the U18 title.

Schools that joined the tournament included St Nicholas, Wartburg, Brettonwood, George Campbell, Queensburgh and Eden College, all contributing to a fantastic atmosphere and high-quality basketball.

The tournament not only showcased the talent of young athletes, but also highlighted the importance of youth development, active lifestyles and community engagement through sport.

“We were thrilled to host our inaugural basketball tournament on the new courts. Our U18 and U16 teams were proud to welcome the other schools to our beautiful campus, and the day was a fantastic success. Congratulations to St Nicholas for winning the U16 tournament and Brettonwood for taking the U18 title. A special thank you to Mr Lindo Mthalane and all our staff and students whose dedication and enthusiasm made this day so memorable. We also sincerely appreciate our sponsors for their generous support – your partnership is invaluable in helping us grow basketball and sport at Waterfall College,” said Waterfall College principal Bryony Green.

The Waterfall College basketball team Sibusiso Msweli, Asanda Makhanya, Lakhanya Njova, Sebastian Millar, Loyiso Nala, Evan Mulder, Oliver Warring and Amanda Sibiya (Coach).

“We look forward to seeing basketball continue to grow as an exciting and vibrant sport within our school community,” added Green.
