Water flow resumes in parts of the City
Water supply is gradually returning after repairs at Nagle Dam, but rationing and intermittent supply will continue.
THE eThekwini Municipality has provided an update to residents, businesses and all other stakeholders on the status of water supply following recent disruptions affecting parts of the City.
The municipality’s marketing and communications directorate said there has been noticeable progress in stabilising storage reservoirs supplied by the Durban Heights Water Treatment Works, which is operated by uMngeni-uThukela Water, the City’s bulk water supplier.
“Water is now flowing from the treatment works into the City’s reservoirs, and some areas have begun receiving water through their taps as supply gradually returns.
“This follows the repair of a valve at Nagle Dam, which had significantly reduced the volume of raw water reaching the Durban Heights Water Treatment Works,” reads a statement from the municipality.
Durban Heights Water Treatment Works supplies water to the City through the Northern and Southern Aqueducts.

“The current phase of restoration focuses on stabilising and replenishing reservoirs and pipelines across the network.
“While treatment capacity is being restored and reservoir levels are improving, the system has not yet fully recovered.
“To support system recovery, the Municipality will continue implementing its water rationing plan to maintain stability in the network and ensure fair water distribution across affected areas.
“Residents in some areas may therefore continue to experience intermittent supply or low water pressure as the network stabilises.”
The municipality also said that water tankers will continue servicing affected communities.
