One of the organisers, Sugi Naidoo, said the Natural Living market was planned by the devotees, seeing that their community has not hosted such an event before.

The aim is to host it once every three months.

“The temple needs funding for day to day operations, maintenance and upkeep of the temple and hall. Money is solely used for maintenance and upkeep of the temple and hall,” explained Naidoo.

She stated that the temple has been in existence for more than 50 years and has played a pivotal role, not only on the religious aspect but the upliftment of the community at large.

On the day of the market, there were 25 stalls which sold a variety of items, including food, plants, new and used clothing, household items, towels, fresh vegetables, and costume jewellery, while face painting was also offered.

“The highlight was the sit down tea/coffee and muffins station that was hosted by the Sungum,” said Naidoo.

“In that way we can increase the numbers and give much more back to our community.”

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
