Annual purrathon to raise funds for feline friends
Kingdom Cats Sanctuary hosts overnight ‘purrathon’ fundraiser to support the care of over 340 rescued cats.
KINGDOM Cats Sanctuary will hosts a purrathon on Friday, April 10, to raise funds for more than 340 cats that are in their care daily.
Co-founder of the santuary Greg Bower said volunteers will enter their enclosure where the cats live, at 17:00, and remain in the enclosure until Saturday at 07:00.
Bower hopes that this fundraiser will enable them to continue caring for the cats and make improvements to their enclosure.
Although Kingdom Cats Sanctuary has been operating for 14 years, Bower said he and his wife, Jenny, have been involved in rescue for more than 20 years.

“We started out rescuing adult cats as there was more of a need for taking in adult cats at the time. Our daily tasks include caring for more than 300 cats, including feeding, cleaning litter trays, water bowls, changing and washing blankets and checking on all the cats in our care.
“We feed over 700kg of dry food, 300 tins and 300 sachets of wet food and use over 400kg of cat litter a month. We applied for NPO registration in July last year, and are still waiting for our certificate,” he said.
Bower added that people are welcome to attend without spending the entire night in the enclosure, and can visit the volunteers and kitties on Friday evening at 37 Jeanne Howes Place in Waterfall.
