Register for golf day and support young students in need
The golf day aims to raise funds for UKZN students facing financial barriers and support educational programmes in township communities.
THE University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) has joined forces with Durban-based NPO Care Enough TDS to host a Golf Day Fundraiser. The new fundraising initiative is aimed at unlocking educational opportunities for young people.
The university said more than 150 township learners and dozens of UKZN students are set to benefit from this golf day fundraiser at Umhlali Country Club and Golf Course on April 23.
The initiative aims to generate financial support for students at UKZN who face financial barriers, while also strengthening educational programmes delivered by Care Enough TDS in township communities. Themed “Driving Opportunity, Changing Futures”, the event will bring together professionals, UKZN alumni, corporate partners, donors and sponsors for a day of golf anchored on a shared commitment to youth development and education.

UKZN Executive Director for Corporate Relations, Normah Zondo, called on all UKZN alumni, sponsors and the general public to take part in the fundraiser, emphasising that it is for a worthy cause.
“The initiative is grounded in the understanding that collective effort can widen access to education and support young people in pursuing their academic and career aspirations. Participation in this initiative reflects a shared commitment to advancing education and contributing to social progress.”
Zondo added that apart from fundraising, the UKZN and Care Enough Golf Day Fundraiser aims to deepen corporate participation in initiatives that advance education and youth development, while also strengthening UKZN’s connection with its alumni community.

“It will also be a good day to reconnect with all our alumni and partners who share the same passion for education.”
Founder and Managing Director of Care Enough TDS, Hlengiwe Ngwenya, who is also a UKZN alumna, said Care Enough TDS is passionate about responding to a need to uplift youth from disadvantaged communities.
“Many capable students reach university with limited financial resources, while learners in township schools often lack exposure to higher education pathways and career opportunities.”
Former Mrs South Africa finalist and UKZN alumna, Shan Fourie, said: “As alumni, we have a role to play beyond our own achievements. Many students still face real barriers to completing their studies. This is more than a day on the course, it is a practical way to support those who need it and to help create opportunities that might otherwise not exist.”
The closing date for registration is April 15. Those who want to register and participate can visit https://alumni.ukzn.ac.za/events/ukzn-and-care-enough-tds-golf-day-fundraiser/
