The 2026 Members’ Award Exhibition is open at the KZNSA Gallery. The annual exhibition and prize-giving event presented by the the KZN Society of Arts celebrates the creativity and innovation of their members, while recognising outstanding contributions to contemporary art in KZN. This year’s theme, Traces, reflects on what remains, fades, or persists over time. It invites artists to engage with memory, residue, and mark-making, exploring presence and absence.

The theme was selected through an open call, allowing members to shape the direction of the exhibition. The result is a diverse and thought-provoking collection that resonates with both personal and collective histories.
The Members’ Award is made possible through the generous support of the Key Foundation and the Joan Emmanuel Trust. The public is invited to experience the exhibition until May 24. Contact the gallery at gallery@kznsagallery.co.za.

Night jam session

The Songbook Sessions is ostensibly a Monday night jam session, in two halves. The first half is a curated set featuring tunes selected by an invited band leader. The tunes are made available in advance, with links to charts and audio, and are ranked from beginner, easy, intermediate, to advanced. The second half is an open jam session.

Catch the Songbook Sessions at the UKZN Centre for Jazz and Popular Music.

The Songbook Sessions are on Mondays from 18:00 – 20:00 at the UKZN Centre for Jazz and Popular Music. Entrance is free for participating musicians and artists. The Songbook Sessions Monday night jam session is made possible with the funding support of Concerts SA, Festival Enterprise Catalyst, SAMRO and the National Treasury Jobs Fund. The next one is taking place on Monday, May 4.

These sessions intend to bring together musicians from all walks, other performance practitioners, students and teachers, and audiences that appreciate musical conversation and live music. It seeks to unearth new repertoires, to interrogate the notion of ‘standards’, to acknowledge our histories, the multi-cultural society that we live in, and to be more inclusive of mastery that exists on the periphery of our communal practice.

Comedy games

Get ready for an unpredictable night of laughter as Patrick Kenny teams up with the talented drama students of the International School of Performing Arts (ISPA) to present Comedy Games, a high-energy improv comedy experience inspired by the hit show Whose Line Is It Anyway?.

Quick-thinking, wildly creative, and completely unscripted, Comedy Games throws performers into a series of hilarious challenges where anything can happen. Using audience suggestions as the spark, the cast creates scenes, characters, songs, and stories on the spot, resulting in a one-of-a-kind performance that will never be repeated.

Led by Kenny, a master of improvisation and comedy, the show showcases the sharp wit, versatility, and fearless spontaneity of ISPA’s rising performers. From outrageous scenarios and absurd characters to clever wordplay and musical improvisation, each moment is packed with laughter and surprise.
