Enjoy creativity, craftmanship at miniature fair
The Durban Association of Miniature Enthusiasts' fair on May 30 in Westville will highlight tiny French houses and attractions like "Lost in Time" and "Trash to Treasure".
JUST when you thought doll houses could not possibly become any smaller, prepare to be amazed by the exquisite miniature French houses designed by Julie Mayo at the Durban Association of Miniature Enthusiasts (DAME).
The spectacular Miniature Fair, which has become a popular event for many Durbanites, will be held on May 30 at the Westville Country Club from 09:00 to 15:00. Entrance is R10 per adult, while children under the age of two enter free of charge.
Member of DAME, Priscilla Kleyntjens, invited people to bring family and friends to enjoy an extraordinary showcase of creativity, craftsmanship and imagination and experience this enchanting world of miniatures.

“Every tiny detail has been meticulously crafted, making these creations a truly remarkable sight to behold.”
She said visitors can also explore an impressive apartment building display, with each apartment uniquely decorated to reflect the individual style, taste and creativity of the members.
According to Kleyntjens, this year’s exhibition promises even more fascinating attractions, including a captivating “Lost in Time” display created within an old-style clock, a creative “Trash to Treasure” table demonstrating how everyday discarded items can be transformed into beautiful treasures, and an exciting model railway display.

“There will be a wonderful variety of stallholders this year selling items from furniture, lighting, kitchen utensils, hats, garden accessories and artwork (virtually all things miniature needed to complete a dollhouse), to dinky toys, model cars, trains, laser-cut items, teddy bears, Barbie doll clothing, ceramics, FIMO bears and cakes, and even bonsai plants. There is something for everyone to enjoy,” said the excited organiser.
Reach for Recovery, the international breast cancer support group, will also have a stand at the Fair.
Adding to the lively atmosphere, Kleyntjens said a DJ will play music throughout the day for visitors to sing along to while browsing the displays and stalls.
“You may even leave inspired to begin your own miniature-making journey and discover the joy of this wonderfully creative hobby! DAME is always delighted to welcome new members.
“The members of DAME spend countless hours crafting their intricate miniature creations, and the level of detail on display is truly astonishing. This is an event not to be missed by collectors, hobbyists, families and anyone with an appreciation for artistry and imagination.”
