Thrift shop launches Pensioners Day in Pinetown

Umduduzi Hope Chest Thrift Shop has introduced Pensioners Day every Tuesday, offering discounts while supporting children's hospice care.

PINETOWN pensioners have a new reason to visit the Umduduzi Hope Chest Thrift Shop, with the launch of a dedicated Pensioners Day every Tuesday at the store on the upper level of Sandy Centre.

The initiative gives senior citizens a special discount on selected items, helping them stretch their budgets while shopping for quality pre-loved clothing, household goods, books, toys and other affordable treasures.

Umduduzi co-founder Tracey Brand said the thrift shop team had seen how many pensioners in the community were under financial pressure, and wanted to offer practical support in a welcoming space.

“Pensioners Day is our way of saying thank you to the older members of our community, while also making it easier for them to find good quality items at affordable prices,” said Brand. “Every purchase also helps us continue caring for children with life-threatening and life-limiting illnesses and supporting their families.”

All proceeds from the shop support Umduduzi – Hospice Care for Children, a KwaZulu-Natal NPO that provides palliative care and support to children and families across the province.

Community members are encouraged to visit the Sandy Centre shop, shop for a bargain, donate quality goods, or support the organisation’s work with vulnerable children and families.
