Bail application date set for suspected Pinetown kidnappers
The two suspects will be back at the Pinetown Magistrate's Court on October 15, when one of them is expected to apply for bail.
THE two suspects arrested in connection with the kidnapping of pupils from a school in the Pinetown area are due back in court on October 15, where one of them is set to apply for bail.
This after the pair, accused one Sabelo Mchunu (36) and accused two Thabiso Goldstone (29), briefly appeared at the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Monday (October 5) when the date was set.
The court heard from Mchunu’s legal representative that he will be applying for bail, while Goldstone’s representative indicated that their client will not make the application.
Mchunu and Goldstone were arrested in May and face 12 charges linked to the alleged kidnapping of two learners. The charges include kidnapping, extortion, attempted extortion, and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

One of the kidnapping incidents took place on May 2 on Bamboo Lane in Pinetown where the suspects allegedly attempted to extort R6000 for the release of the victim.
It is also alleged in different incidents they had demanded ransoms ranging from R10 000 to R12 000.
In the counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances, it is alleged that the suspects had either used a firearm or knife to rob victims of cellphones, including those of the pupils.
