The Court case between the Council and the Tribunal has been settled with the Appeal by Nora Choveaux having been listed as invalid as the appeal ‘documents were not sent to the Tribunal within the given time limit. The next date has been logged for the end September but as not all parties are not able to be present on the day an alternative date has been asked for. Conomirra is now the only appellant as none of the other 300+ objectors have appealed.
2014 Election.
The date for the next election has been set for some time in May next year. Electioneering has already started. From what has been happening within some of the political parties, the face of the elections could change. We live in interesting times.
Register to Vote/Change of Address. If anyone has had a change of address or has not registered to vote, this can be done at the municipal Information Centres.
Cliffdale Road.
Cliffdale Road has been opened again and the sink hole has been repaired.
Shongweni Bridge.
The bridge at the end of Shongweni Road that goes over the M13 was hit by a travelling crane and was reported to the authorities about some 15 months ago. We have been assured that the engineers are ‘happy’ with the current situation but that it will be repaired soon.
Electricity Cuts on Unpaid Consolidated Bills.
The Constitutional Court has ruled that Municipalities are entitled to cut the electricity supply to a property if the whole account has not been paid. Any monies paid in are allocated to any section where money is owing and if there is a shortfall on any of them, it is deemed that your electricity has not been paid in full and the municipality can cut the service. Some folk are not given the required notice in writing and reconnection fees are charged when the service is continued.
Hillcrest Development.
A Basic Assessment and a Licence for Waste Water has been applied for at a housing development of 13ha down Fischer Road opposite the Sanyati site. It is for 264 units. Phone Ronell at 031 769 1578 Fax: 086 535 5281 to register or obtain further details.
The development of the school, housing and shops in Inanda Road has the earthworks being done and this is in addition to the widening of Inanda Road itself. The work on the Watercrest Shopping Centre continues.
Umhlatazana River.
The Umhlaltazana River is taking a beating from all over. The wetland that gets water from Botha’s Hill is being dug out for the building of offices. Further down at least 3 dams have been built without permission. Alien plants grow in the waterway; some residents have blocked the river and diverted it in order to build houses right alongside the river bed. People riding their bikes in the Sugar Cane at night have come across odorous water spilling in to the stream. Amazing that any of the aquatic life can live at all. If you know of any transgressions please phone 0801313013 or the Durban branch of the Department of Water Affairs on 031-3362700.
