EDITOR – On behalf of Hillcrest Villagers’ Athletic Club , I appeal for assistance from all residents in Winston Park and Hillcrest areas where our annual race takes place.
This will be the 38th running of our event and as it is the first local Durban-based Two Oceans and Comrades qualifier for 2015. Please can I ask for all residents to come out and enjoy the day, show patience and compassion, making us all proud to show the beauty of our residential areas to runners coming from around KZN and further afield.
My wife, Silvia, and I were fortunate enough to participate in last November’s New York Marathon, an event fully supported by the city, showcasing the various boroughs and attracting more than 10 000 volunteers on the day.
We would love to have a similar event result, but on a much smaller scale.
Please can I ask for all motorists to abide by the marshal’s instructions, and to please not verbally abuse any assistants on the route. We are very cognisant of the fact that your residential area is used, and will endeavour to make the day’s event as successful as possible to everyone.
