Inferior refuse bags are ‘rubbish’

Blue garden bags not up to standard.

Editor – I’ve just finished sweeping and raking up leaves and putting them into the blue garden bags ‘purchased’ from the eThekwini Municipality, almost every bag tore or burst as I was either filling it or tying the top up.

The plastic material these bags are made from is extremely inferior and certainly not worth the cost we have to pay for them. In fact, in order for the collection to be made, I had to repair the bags as best I could so that they can even be picked up by the refuse people.

I would of thought that a large efficient municipality like ours would at least insist on SABS-certified bags to sell to the ratepayers.

I’m writing this to you as I’m sure many other gardeners in this city are having the same problem.

The question that needs to be asked is, are these, in fact, the ‘quality’ bags that are budgeted for by the municipally, or does the municipality budget for cheap inferior garden bags? Leaves you wondering.
