SOME months ago, the balustrading on several bridges, between Pinetown and Westville, (and perhaps elsewhere), have had rectangular steel frames fitted onto the on-coming traffic sides of the balustrading.
This is being done presumably in preparation for the fitting of wire mesh, to prevent the recent, malicious, criminal, iniquitous and life-threatening trend of dropping rocks onto oncoming vehicles.
The rock throwers’ intention is to rob drivers and their passengers if they are still alive and need a break-down service.
They usually park nearby and offer assistance under false pretences. No such wire mesh or similar has been fitted. Why? And when is this sick, but essential project going to be completed?
Secondly, trenches crossing roads, from one side to the other side, have been dug, presumably for repairs or additions to buried services, and have been back-filled, and crudely and inefficiently patched, leaving potholes, (of which we are all too familiar with).
The results seem to indicate that there is no completion inspection, by a senior official, qualified as such, to inspect, and clear – or order, and supervise further remedial work.
So drivers now negotiate an “obstacle course”, by weaving their way around such dangers, at the possible expense of causing accidents.
Is my letter going to elicit any replies from those responsible? I doubt it.
I look forward to your reply.
