Tips for drivers licence applicants

"The office only opens at 8am and you are standing in the open while waiting. So perhaps take the following with you."

I ARRIVED at 6am at Camperdown for my licence and was seventh in the queue.

The office only opens at 8am and you are standing in the open while waiting. So perhaps take the following with you.

1. Folding chair, jacket, brolly (it drizzled the day I went) a pen, clipboard or magazine to press on when filling in the forms handed to you in the queue.

2. Have proof of residence, ID and a photostat of your ID plus two photos.

3. Have your eyes tested by an optometrist for the driver’s licence and they will issue you with a certificate. This saves you doing the eye test there.

When the doors of the small office open they only let six people in at a time.

A kind gentleman gave me his sixth place and I would like to extend my thanks to him.

I did not have a pen so thank you to the kind lady who loaned me her pen and a very special thanks to the young knight who came and stood behind me not with a sword, but with his umbrella and shielded me from the drizzling rain while others huddled under the few trees available.
