Thousands took part in Amashova
Over 10 000 jubilant riders took part in the Amashovashova.
THE Amashova Durban Classic, now in its 27th year, welcomed more than 10 000 jubilant riders to the finish after having cycled one of the safest cycle road races in the country.
Top favourite cyclist and winner of the 2011 Amashova, Johannesburg-based Nolan Hoffman from Team Abantu, proved unbeatable this year in the men’s elite category with a time of 2:18:59.
He now boasts three major East Coast victories, with the Amashova Durban Classic being his latest conquest. In total, Hoffman has won 15 national classics on the SA circuit to date.
First up in the women’s elite category was 26-year-old An-li Kachelhoffer of team Best Med ASG who, after having competed in the Amashova for four consecutive years, finally won, with a time of 2:56:00. After the race she expressed her delight, “The race was good. We rode a little differently this year and I felt quite confident to move to the front of the pack and go for the win,” she said.
