Bikini beauty wins body fitness challenge
Angelique Roux found her passion in fitness and today she lives a healthy and happy life.
GILLITTS resident, Angelique Roux, holds the title for Rossi Rand Show Extreme Bodies Bikini Fitness Champion, which she won at a body-building contest in Randfontein recently.
The 20-year-old beauty said her journey began on a different path from where she is today. Through majority of her teenage years she struggled with an eating disorder and food was always an enemy. Obsessed with the number on the scale and never satisfied with her reflection, she went on a downward spiral to the point where she ended up with major depression as she wrestled with bulimia.
At the tender age of 13 she started modelling and began to compare herself, and as time went by she found herself infatuated with the ‘Thinspiration’ websites, which just added fuel to the fire, and her situation got worse.
“My perception of food and eating was extremely negative, and I exercised to the point of almost passing out, nopt realising that I was wasting away day by day,” said Angelique.
After some time of self-reflection she realised that change needed to take place. The game changer was the day she decided to join a gym, and she fell in love with the fitness industry.
“I started learning more about how food is fuel and not an enemy. Lifting weights became my new addiction and I found a new self-confidence,” said Angelique.
She found her passion in fitness and today she lives a healthy and happy life.
“I’ve learnt balance, and my goal is to inspire and motivate others who are struggling the same battles to find their self-worth in their passion. I want to educate others that food is not an enemy and that through a healthy and balanced life, you too can overcome it,” said Angelique.
