Villagers go against the ‘Mighty Quins’

LAND Rover Durban Hillcrest Villagers Rugby Club hosted Harlequins Rugby Club on Saturday, 18 July at their picturesque home grounds of The Durban Shongweni Club.

In the main match of the afternoon, Villagers first XV outclassed the ‘Mighty Quins’ 45-10. Villagers were relentless in their attack of the Quins’ try-line. Tries went to Villagers’ fleetfooted-paceman, Alex Klewinghaus (4) Mitch Coe (2) and Brandon Waugh, with Coe kicking five conversions. Man of the Match went to Tommy Bezuidenhout (backline) and Mitch Coe (forwards).

Villagers second XV were equally impressive, posting a 32-19 score over their opposition. Tries: Philip Carlitz (2); Ayanda Makatini; Wiseman Cele; and Gavin Muir; with Justin Eben adding two penalties and a conversion. Man of the Match went to Phillip Calitz (backline) and Michael Diab (forwards).

Earlier in the afternoon, Envirosan Villagers thirds went down 41-27 to Varsity College OB in a game which saw Villagers dominating many of the phases of the game, with a scoreline not really reflecting the game. Man of the Match went to Dylan Jones (forwards) and Brad Dammes (backline).
