Mud, guts and obstacles feature in adventure race

Test your strength fitness at the first of four Wattera events this year.

OBSTACLE course racing brings elements of fun, fitness and family together and the first Waterra event in the 2017 series is happening this weekend at Infinite Adventures in Botha’s Hill.

Its motto of ‘more obstacles, less running’ is something the team has focused on since their inaugural event last year and now offer an obstacle nearly every 400m.

The dedicated team has created a course that is safe for all and all levels of fitness.

Athletes looking for an intense challenge will be well catered for with some of the most challenging structures on offer.

This combination of natural obstacles in the environment as well as the man-made ones has found favour with all those who completed the first event.

“This is like Warrior on steroids,” was one of the numerous positive comments made by finishers at event last year.

Race director, Jason Pachon, said, “We are growing the series to four events in 2017 and are very happy to see such a good reception from the athletes. The level of competition will definitely go up, but we are very focused on providing a safe environment for all athletes, and the increase in numbers shows that people are happy with what we are offering.”

The race starts at 8am on Saturday, 18 March, with the elite super heroes in the heroes for a day category.

This is followed by heroes in training at 8.15am.

High schools have responded to the call and have their own team race which starts at 8.30am. This is immediately followed by the teams in both heroes for a day and heroes in training events.

For the younger generation, there is Juniya Heroes at 10am, where competitors will race through obstacles, mud and slides in a safe setting.

The team challenges allow groups of like-minded friends to take on the challenge as a collective, while still challenging themselves individually to make it around the testing route.

The natural terrain and trails also provide a test of their own with big hills to climb and dams to cross.

For competitors and supporters, there will be freshly prepared food, coffees and ice creams for sale as well as hot showers for competitors.

Medical and safety teams will also be on hand.

Entries are still open and individuals or teams who want to compete can enter online at www.waterra.co.za.
