Villagers’ continue winning streak
Catch the Upper Highway team take on the Durban Mets this Friday in Westville.
THE Land Rover Durban-Hillcrest Villagers’ Rugby Club claimed another two decisive wins in the 2017 first division rugby season.
Villagers hosted their first home game of the season against PMB Collegians at the Durban Shongweni Club at the weekend.
The Villagers 2nd XV came out of the starting blocks, with all cylinders firing and claimed a 45 – 0 win.
Martin Van Rooyen took the forwards’ man of the match and Ruan Taljaard took title for the backs’ man of the match.
The Villagers 1st XV hit the ground running with a flurry of tries and an equally impressive final score of 73 – 0.
“Villagers are showing that their hard work in pre-season fitness and conditioning is allowing them to play attacking running rugby, with a scoreline to prove it,” said the club’s chairman, Rene Missen. “Credit must, however, go to the PMB Collegians’ sides which, albeit outclassed, never gave up until the final whistle.”
At the post match address, the Villagers’ 1st XV assistant coach, Taffy Gutu, complemented both sides on a job well done. Man of the Match titles went to Jono Deighton (forwards) and Gerhard Botha (backs).
The Villagers will take on the Durban Mets on Friday, 7 April at the Department of Correctional Services Fields in Westville.
