WOB teams smash Queensburgh players

Both the 1st and 2nd XV teams won their matches 87-0.

THE Westville Old Boys’ rugby club (WOB) continued its momentum from the Wahl Bartmann day with another set of full house victories at the weekend.

The 2nd XV began strong with 60 – 0 lead going into half time against a spirited Queensburgh side.

The scoring may have slowed in the second half, but coach Ryan Schuit was pleased with the 87 – 0 win.

Langa Mbongwa and Braam Mouton picked up the forward and back player of the match titles, respectively.

With the heat starting to ease, the 1st XVs took to the field on the back of a 107-0 win against UKZN the week before.

The WOB forwards dominated the early encounters and had Queensburgh on the back foot.

With free flowing running rugby and a strong defence, the 1st team matched the 2nds result of 87 – 0.

The team’s coach, Lawrence Payne, added that even though he was pleased with the score, a lot of opportunities were left out during the game.

Five-try hero, Keegan-Allah Paverd, scooped the backline player of the match while loose forward, Tyron Tarpey, picked up the forwards’ award.

WOB will take on the PMB Collegians on Friday, 7 April at 6.30pm and 8pm.

“A big crowd is expected and the cafe and bar will be fully stocked and ready,” said the club’s chairman, Johan Stander.
