Unwavering success for Liam
Liam Kavanagh took the top position in the U18 juniors division at the South African Bodyboarding Association Champs.

KEEN bodyboarder, Liam Kavanagh, recently returned triumphant after he competed in the gruelling South African Bodyboarding Association Champs 2018 in Cape Town.
The Grade 11 learner at Westville Boys’ High School claimed first place in the U18 Juniors’ Division and is the SA Champion.
The 17-year-old has always loved the ocean and he started bodyboarding competitively in 2012. Liam met Michael Ostler at a bodyboard clinic on South Beach. Michael began mentoring him in and out of the water.
“We met up more often and we grew a good relationship. Sharing waves and stories, Michael and I were often seen together training and cruising. Bodyboarding has now become a lifestyle for me,” said the enthusiastic sports star.
To reach his level of success, Liam trains every weekend and also sneaks in a few early morning sessions before school.
“Winning SA Champs last year in Durban meant that all the pressure was on me to perform again this year at SA Champs in Cape Town.
“I managed to get some good waves in the final and won the title for a second year in a row. It felt ten times better than the first time I won it.
“My sponsors provided me with all the equipment I needed for the cold Cape Town waters. I am looking forward to next year’s SA Champs in Port Alfred,” said Liam.
He thanked his sponsors The Hand Picked Movement, Limited Edition Fins and Michael Ostler for their ongoing support.
