Hillcrest triathlete claims third place

The Kearsney College learner will also compete in the Alley Road Aquathlon this weekend.

LOCAL triathlete, Joshua Steytler, snapped up a podium finish with third place in the sprint category (16 to 17) boys at the KZN Triathlon Champs at Midmar Dam at the weekend.

The event saw the Kearsney College learner complete a 750m swim, a 20km cycle and a 5km run.

Even though this is his third year competing in the gruelling sport, he admitted that he still felt nervous before a race.

With the butterflies in his stomach, he refused to relent his goal was to make it into the top three. With that result he would be selected for the SA Triathlon Championships in KZN in April this year.

“At the finish line I was happy, but apprehensive as I waited to see my position,” said the 15-year-old.

His next big event is the school challenge sprint individual event in the Discovery Triathlon Word Cup in Cape Town on 11 February.
