Local karateka makes top chop

The local lass is currently ranked third in South Africa in her age group for her karate achievement.

YASTHIKA Narainsamy from the Westville Karate Club, an affiliate of the International Federation of Funakoshi Shotokan Karate South Africa, recently represented South Africa at a tournament in Namibia.

At the event, hosted by the African Union Sports Council, she competed in the 10- to 11-year-old kumite division and placed third. The talented karateka is also ranked third in the country and has earned her Protea colours.

“I am unbelievably proud of Yasthika and her wonderful achievement. I can tell that this is only the beginning of her bright and prosperous karate journey,” said sensei Brian Govender.
