VIDEO: Seaview Road to be repaired sometime in 2027

For two years the collapsed section of the road, near the intersection of Marnevale Road, has widened and become a spot for illegal dumping.

THE eThekwini Municipality said work to repair a section of Seaview Road that collapsed in October 2024, is likely to only be undertaken next year.

For two years the collapsed section of the road, near the intersection of Marnevale Road, has widened and the hole has become a spot for illegal dumping.

What is more the two-lane road has been reduced to a sliver of tarmac with many motorists, including scholar transport (to the nearby school) and other heavy duty vehicles, driving on and damaging the pavement.

According to City spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila the municipality is waiting to award the contract.

“The estimated repair cost is R1.9m and funding has been secured for this repair. The municipality is awaiting the award of contract that will enable us to undertake a range of repair works and is anticipating a start date early in the new year with a four-month construction period,” he said. The contract will also include the repair of the damaged pavement.

No dates were given for the four-month construction period.

Mzila also commented on the illegal dumping, saying no one had been prosecuted yet. “If residents can provide unaltered photos of alleged dumping with vehicle registrations, the City will investigate further.”

Resident Judy Bol, who lives close to the collapsed section, said the news is exciting.
