Lollipop ladies return at Sibaya

Popular Radio Soapie returns as a theatre production.

CLINTON Marius’s wacky characters of the popular radio soapie, Lollipop Lane, have returned in Sibaya Casino’s iZulu Theatre’s spin-off production, The Ladies of Lollipop Lane.

Fans will be able to enjoy the side-splitting humour from Friday 11 April to Sunday 13 April.

The spin-off features a stellar line-up of comedy favourites, such as Pauline Dalais and Shika Budhoo, who star as the much-loved Mrs Singh-Singh and Mrs Singh-Song.

Dhaveshan Govender appears as Ricky, while Maeshni Naicker reprises her role as the outrageous kleptomaniac pensioner, Auntie. Mpume Mthombeni graces the stage as the irrepressible domestic help, Regina, and Caitlin Kilburn appears as the dolphin-whispering, tree-hugging Shirley.

Audiences will also meet newcomers, Sandile Mthembu and Khanyisani Kheswa, who appear as the handyman, James and his twin brother… James.

Caroline Smart will also make a guest appearance as Shirley’s mother-from-hell, Edith McDoodle. Politics, relationships, society, people, and food will be discussed in the whacky show.

“Over the past two years since the radio soapie came to an end, I’ve been inundated with requests from fans to find a new platform for their favourite characters,” said Clinton Marius.

Performances on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 April start at 8pm, while Sunday’s performance starts at 3pm.
