Help Highway Hospice on Mandela Day

Needing a project or a worthy cause to take part in this Mandela Day, make your mark and help out at the Highway Hospice.

MANDELA Day is entrenched in South Africa’s culture as the day where everyone donates 67 minutes of their time to giving back the community.

“At Highway Hospice we welcome all volunteers on the day. We would love for them to come and help us with several projects that we have in mind. We understand that people are busy, so we have an alternative for them. If they cannot donate their time, either to come through or to go shopping for us, we challenge them to donate R67 or more to the Highway Hospice,” said Cathy Goss, fundraising manager at Highway Hospice.

According to Cathy, the Hospice needs volunteers to paint and neaten up its Day Centres in Umlazi, Chesterville, Inanda, Phoenix and at the Sherwood properties. “Some of our outpatients in these areas live in very sad conditions and we would love to go in and put on a coat of paint and have a bit of a spruce up,” said Cathy.

Donations of paint and cleaning products are also needed to get the jobs done. Food parcel donations are also welcome. “If you could spend your 67 minutes at your local supermarket putting together a food parcel for our orphans and vulnerable children’s programme we would be so grateful,” said Cathy. Another way you can help is to sell raffle tickets for the 67 minutes at your office, make and sell cupcakes to raise funds for the Highway Hospice or have a look at its wish list and see if there is anything you would be able to donate. View the wishlist on the Highway Hospice website.
