Adventure-thriller hits highway

TECHNO-THRILLER fan, Klaus Schirmer, recently penned and published his first novel, Cold Factor.

Gillitts resident and father of two, Klaus started writing the techno thriller about three and a half years ago. “I enjoyed reading the works of Tom Clancy, Frederick Forsyth and Larry Bond and I really enjoyed writing, so I began writing a book,” said Klaus.

Once the book was nearly complete, he pasted a post onto Upper highway Info’s Facebok group, in December last year, and asked who would be interested in reading his book and whether or not he should continue to write it. More than 20 people jumped at the chance and each of them were given a 75 per cent completed copy of the unedited book. The feedback he received from his captivated audience was “what happens at the end?”

With the positive reinforcement he completed the book in March and it was then sent for editing, review and cover design.

The novel has strong ties to WW2 but is set in the year 2015 and deals with the “what if” scenario should Europe have had its gas and oil supplies cut off during the onset of one of the coldest winters in history. The main protagonist, Michael Grey, is called upon by the world powers to establish whether or not the catastrophic situation was deliberately orchestrated. Along with his colleague, Billy McLaughlin, the duo have been given 14 days to establish who, if anyone, was responsible for the energy crisis affecting Europe.

According to Klaus, the lead character is a mash up of all the men he met and served with in the army, which made him a character that people would aspire to be. The sidekick, Billy, was said to be loosely related to one of his relatives.

Klaus is currently writing the second book which he hopes to be a quadrilogy.

The book is available for purchase from Amazon on ebook or paperback or can be purchased directly from Klaus for R199 via email at kliebica@telkomsa.net.
