Highway residents learn to counsel
A group of keen students gathered at the Holy Trinity Church in Hillcrest to learn how to help others in need.
THE Philippi Trust, a non-profit Christian counselling organisation, recently held the first weekend of three training sessions in its introductory counselling course at the Holy Trinity Church in Hillcrest.
The level one course is to give students a basic introduction to counselling and covers confidentiality, differences between counselling and ministry, listening skills, dealing with loss and grief, understanding rejection, counselling practice and practical application of counselling.
The Philippi Trust is a non-denominational organisation and holds courses for churches and other interested bodies. Courses have also been held in Ballito, Durban Berea, Johannesburg and Mauritius.
A minimum of 12 students are required for a course to be held. A further advanced course for level one students is held over 10 months and involves study and practical experience.
The advanced course (level two) will start in the latter part of January 2015.
Further information on counselling and counselling courses may be obtained from the local representative, Don Peddie, on 082 865 2492.
