Independent councillor puts prayer first

Ward 92 councillor, Bongani Mpungose, shares his plans for 2015.

WARD 92 councillor, Bongani Mpungose, believes that everything start and end with God, and so his plans for this year include a prayer to kick off 2015.

Mpungose said it has been the norm to host prayers at the end of each year.

“I think it is very important to thank and praise the Lord for everything He has done for us, and, most importantly, people can ask for guidance and blessings.

“Each year people make new year’s resolutions which many of them never keep, which is why I think this prayer is important,” he said.

The prayer will include pastors in his ward and surrounding areas, and he will host it in February as everyone will be settled now that the holiday season is over and the children are back to school.

“I would really like the schools to be part of this as we would like to visit schools and pray for the children,” he said.

Mpungose, who is an independent councillor, said he has faced so many challenges since his appointment but he works hard to serve his community.

He said in March he wants to have a meeting with his community to discuss their problems, as the national budget is distributed around that time.

“We need to know their grievances, so that by the time we receive the money it can be distributed accordingly.”

He said to do that he would need support and commitment from the community.

He added that he would like to thank all the Highway residents who assisted the 13 families that were left homeless when their shacks burnt to ashes last year in September.

Mpungose can be reached on 072 424 0388 or bmpungose@gmail.com.
