Muso Salim Washington plays jazzy tunes at UKZN

JAZZ artist, Salim Washington, will perform at the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music on Wednesday, 20 May at 6pm.

Washington is a highly accomplished musician whose instruments are the tenor saxophone, flute and oboe. The Harvard University PhD scholar is an in-demand lecturer as well as a composer and an arranger.

In 2013 he became a full-time professor in the Music Department at UKZN. While based in USA, Washington performed with many of New York’s finest musicians. He continues to be a committed teacher, writer, speaker and performer in numerous solo, group and ensemble projects.

Washington on the saxophone will be joined by his band: Neil Gonsalves (piano), Dalisu Ndlazi (bass), Sbu Zondi (drums), Bethuel Tshoane (guitar), Nokwanda Nkala (alto sax), Leon Scharnick (alto sax), Sanele Qwabe (tuba), Ildo Nandja (cow bell), John Drace (congas), Zama Khuzwayo, Ayanda Thango, Hlengiwe Ntombela and Kwena Ramahuta (vocals) at the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music (CJPM), level two, Shepstone Building at UKZN Howard College Campus on Wednesday.
