Fabulous reads – It all goes down in light-hearted read
Book review - Best Laid Plans by Kathy Lette.

Best Laid Plans, Kathy Lette, Penguin Random House, ISBN: 9780 5527 79111
Best Laid Plans was the perfect mixture between utterly ridiculous and heart-warming. Lucy is your average mother, mostly. She likes to bake and garden and is all round, quite sweet. All she really wants to do is help her son lose his virginity. Weird, yes but her heart is in the right place. She finds herself kerb-crawling with her almost 21 year old son and then promptly finds herself arrested. The chaos ensues.
Merlin, her son, is autistic and while Lucy is hell bent on doing all she can to raise him right on her own, she gets herself into more trouble than one could ever think possible. Lucy watches as Kayleigh (the she-devil) arrives on the scene and tears her sweet Merlin apart.
The real-life aspect of being a mother is so real and the hopelessness and stress that comes along with a special needs child is raw and tear-jerking. If you’re not laughing with tears, you’re crying from a few swift reality punches throughout the book.
Pour yourself a glass of wine and enjoy some smouldering London police officers, a wacky almost side-kick and a sleazy ex-husband. It is a great book club read.
