Deacon reaches his goals, on and off the field
Westville Senior Primary School's SPAR star of the month is Declan Grindell.
DEACON Grindell, a Grade 6 learner at Westville Senior Primary School, was recently selected as a member of the KZN PSi (Pro Series Indoor) hockey team which will compete in a national tournament in Durban this month.
Deacon’s position is goalie. He has also been chosen to attend PADSSA trials next month for the Westville ward.
His favourite sport is hockey, but he enjoys playing cricket as well.
His role models are Mike Labuschagne and Guywin Jones, both hockey players.
Deacon excels academically and his favourite subject is mathematics.
His teacher describes him as a cheerful, friendly boy who is well mannered. He also has a good general knowledge and is able to make valuable contributions to class discussions.
Deacon is an avid reader who is fascinated by Greek, Roman and Egyptian mythology.
He is also a fan of Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson series.
At home, apart from his favourite pastime, reading, he and his family like to go on long walks with their three dogs, Jack, Bella and Major.
