Comrades runners bring hope to HACT
Funds raised through this year's campaign will be used to support a number of the charity's projects, including the centre's 24-bed Respite Unit and its Goals 4 Life programme.
THE Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust (HACT) is grateful for the generosity of the local and international running community who donated R641 180 through the Comrades Marathon’s virtual Centenary Hope Challenge that took place in June this year.

“The passion and dedication of all of our runners continues to motivate and inspire our team. We remain so grateful and humbled by their extraordinary commitment to helping HACT fulfil its mission of providing unconditional love and hope to all those impacted by HIV and AIDS through their fundraising efforts this past year,” said HACT’s CEO, Candace Davidson.
HACT’s Comrades ambassador and founder of KZN’s largest running community, Beloved Long Runs, Dean Wight, who, for the past four years, has passionately fundraised on behalf of the local charity, also retained his title as the Comrades’ Top Fundraiser for the fourth year in a row. He has now personally raised R538 853 for HACT this year.
“This year, Comrades challenged all runners to run for hope through their Centenary Hope Challenge and I can think of no better way to inspire hope than to support the amazing work that the HACT team is doing right here in our local community,” he said.
According to HACT’s marketing and fundraising manager, Claire Hodgkinson, funds raised through this year’s campaign will be used to support a number of the charity’s projects, including the centre’s 24-bed Respite Unit and its Goals 4 Life programme that harnesses the power of sport to teach life skills and HIV prevention to vulnerable children and young people across the Valley of 1000 Hills.
“Here at HACT we are committed to ensuring these funds are used to help improve the lives of as many vulnerable children and families, who are living directly along the Comrades route, as possible,” said Hodgkinson.
To support HACT, join its monthly giving programme, the Hope Club, with a donation of just R50 per month. Visit www.hillaids.org.za or contact the fundraising team on 031 765 5866 or via email at fundraising@hillaids.org.za
