Five decor trends to turn your bedroom into a sanctuary

Tips and tricks to bedroom bliss.

A good night’s sleep is not only key to a fresh start the next morning but is also important for your overall mental and physical health. You owe it to yourself (and the people around you) to turn your bedroom into a calm and tranquil space where you can retreat from the hustle and bustle and enjoy peace and relaxation. Try incorporating these five trends from the Volpes team to achieve just that:

Tech free zone

Kick out all electronic devices. Eliminate the temptation of quickly checking your emails or watching YouTube for hours instead of sleeping. Rather keep your phone outside your bedroom or at least far away from your bed to really give yourself a chance to disconnect. Next, create comfortable zones by incorporating a small corner sofa or armchair where you can read a book.  Opt for soft lighting with a dimmer option to create a relaxing mood.

Invest in your sleep

Restful sleep is key to helping your body restore and recharge itself enough to take on the new day. Start with a high-quality bed and mattress. Use a mattress protector to keep dust mites and skin cells from penetrating the mattress, and for extra softness, add a mattress topper. Get a duvet and pillow that fulfills your needs – choose the type of filling you prefer, the level of warmth you need and the pillow support that is most comfortable. Invest in the best quality linen you can afford.

Love your space

Create a happy space by introducing colours and patterns that put a smile on your face. It’s the perfect opportunity to hang that piece of art that brings you joy. Pamper yourself with bedlinen in a shade or pattern that you love and include accessories that reflect your taste and make you feel good.

Mix the old with the new

Nostalgic decor and vintage items are all the rage. With climate change so evident, the one thing we can all do is reduce our carbon footprint by using reclaimed wood and existing furnishings. Visit auctions, junk shops and online platforms like Facebook Marketplace to find beautiful second-hand pieces to add warmth and soul to your room. An added advantage is that a mix of styles and eras creates a uniquely yours look.

Bring in nature

The desire for a closer connection to nature and the earth is more vital than ever, making nature-inspired design big in 2022. From sophisticated botanicals, florals and animal prints on fabrics and wallpapers – it’s all about bringing nature indoors. Green, of course, is the colour of the moment in a variety of shades, from soft sage to brilliant emerald. While indoor plants have been around for a while, indoor trees that bring the garden inside are gaining popularity.
