A new skate park for Kloof

The Kloof project has launched the construction of their skate park.

THE Kloof Project is ecstatic to announce their commencement of the construction planning of the mini skate park that will be under the Elizabeth Bridge. The organisation said the development was the brain child of well-known artist Giffy. They said his desire was to provide a skating facility for the local youth, serving as a much-needed and convenient facility.

Chairman of The Kloof Project Chris Dalzell said this stage of the project has been a long time coming. “After a year of going through all the required official channels to get formal approval and agreements signed, The Kloof Project has proudly unveiled the plan to begin construction planning for the mini skate park,” he said. Among many other facilities, Dalzell said the site will have a verge access lane leading into two skating bowls.

Dalzell said the much-anticipated project will require funding and donated building materials. He pleaded with the public to support them so they can at least get started with Phase 1 of the project. Further explaining the project, Bruce Thomson from The Kloof Projects Youth Desk said the initiative will be partly funded by relevant brands that link well to the community and this sport – by extension, local families and businesses who have a vested interest in providing their children with a fabulous long-term facility that is conveniently on their doorsteps.

“To enhance this artistic zone further with a buzz of activity will also assist us with our dream to turn unused, neglected zones into spaces well used for healthy pursuits, such as skating,” he said.

The organisation said they are accepting donated construction materials as an option other than monetary assistance. “Ready-to-use concrete mix, reinforcing steel, bricks, fencing, solar lighting, use of a digger vehicle, and safety screening for the construction period are all welcome,” they stated. They encourage donations using either the Zapper code on the Kloof Bench’s verge-side board, or corporates are invited to contact the team directly to discuss the tax-return benefits from the monetary support.
