Ponego Secondary School bags three points in school league

Ponego Secondary School crushes OR Tambo Secondary School during the K Motsepe Schools League.

Ponego Secondary School continued their winning streak after clinching three points against OR Tambo Secondary (OTS) School during the Kay Motsepe Schools League at Barcelona sport grounds, Ramokonopi Section, in Katlehong on August 29.

They won 1-0.

The two sides played to a goalless first half.

OTS created many opportunities, building their attack from behind with great touches in the middle field.

Unfortunately, the striking force could not convert any of the opportunities they created in both halves as they either shot straight into the goalkeeper’s hands or not hard enough to test the keeper.

In the second half, a determined PSS striker did not hold back after getting one among many chances during a counterattack. He registered the only goal from short-range in the dying minutes of the match.

Teacher and coach of OTSS Zinhle Thwala said they had a good game in the second half compared to the first half because the players were fighting among each other but they were able to fix things during halftime.

“We came back strong but the problem was that we did not have a natural striker, we were building up from the back and playing well but when it came to scoring it was a problem. I think our strikers got scared when they reached the 18-yard area. We missed many one-on-one opportunities to score.”

She said they would work on fixing their front-line problem even though some players were absent due to writing exams.

According to Thwala, the school has played two games. They conceded three points in their second game after failing to honour a fixture due to lack of transport.

She said that even though they have two games, they still have a fighting chance because they still have a game in hand.

Coach Lwazi Khaba of the undefeated PSS, told Kathorus MAIL that this is their second fixture in the league. He believes that they will reach greater heights.

“Each and every day we prepare to win. We want to challenge schools like Clapham, and see how the township schools’ soccer can grow,” said Khaba.

They won 2–0 against Kwadukathole Comprehensive School in their first game in the league.
