3 killed in separate early-morning Katlehong accidents

Two die after a hatchback crashes into a river, while another man dies in a Mercedes crash at the Monaheng Section.

Three people died horrifically in separate accidents that occurred around Katlehong on the dawn of August 25.

Two people succumbed to their severe injuries when a hatchback Hyundai i30 vehicle, which five people occupied smashed into the metal road barriers and a concrete streetlight pole on M7 Road before landing in the Natalspruit River, located in Zonkizizwe, around 04:20.

An eyewitness who asked not to be named said brown beer bottles were spotted in the car which was involved in the accident.

“The scene was horrific because one of the deceased’s head was severed during the accident.”

According to the Disaster and Emergency Management Services spokesperson, William Ntladi said the firefighters and various rescue teams responded to the accident scene.

“Three of the five occupants were rescued and medically treated on the scene before being taken to the nearest medical facility.

“However, the two other occupants succumbed to their severe injuries and were declared dead on the scene by paramedics,” said Ntladi.

He mentioned that in another accident, a man driving a Mercedes-Benz died after he crashed into a tree at Sontonga Road around 02:15 at Monaheng Section, in Katlehong.

“The paramedics were called to the scene and declared the male driver dead,” shared Ntladi.
