Former Erasmus Monareng Secondary School reunite

Former students of Erasmus Monareng Secondary School were extremely happy to reunite with former schoolmates.

The first-ever learners to attend Erasmus Monareng Secondary School met for the first time after 30 years at a reunion held in Vosloorus on October 28.

The school was established in 1988.

Sibusiso Tembe hosted his former schoolmates at his home. He arranged the event alongside Busisiwe Gambushe and Teffo Modise.

Tembe said it was a nice reunion, especially having to see his schoolmates again.

He said organising the event was not easy as they struggled to find some of their classmates but they are pleased that many people attended.

“As we approached some of our classmates we found that some of them had moved and others had passed away,” said Tembe.

“Our WhatsApp group has at least 102 people but some of them could not come because they had plans, others came late and unfortunately some arrived after we left.”

Gambushe said the former learners were extremely excited when the idea was proposed to meet.

“It was great to reminisce, such as how we used to disrespect our principal. I recall how classes would start at 08:00 and an hour later we were out of school.”

Gift Mnguni said it was a while since he saw some of the people, savouring the opportunity to reunite. “We have grown up of course. Some of them are graduates, some are married and others are working in their respective fields of interest.”

On November 25 the group will meet again at Isaac Monare’s place in Rockville, Vosloorus.
