South African Blackball Federation Gauteng aims to popularise blackball

The South African Blackball Federation Gauteng recognised its athletes and celebrated cue sports in general.

The South African Blackball Federation Gauteng (SABFG) held its capping ceremony at Flames Pub and Grill, Primrose, Germiston.

The SABF Gauteng is passionate about blackball and committed to seeing it flourish in SA. Their goal is to provide chances for blackball enthusiasts of all ages and backgrounds to engage, compete, and succeed in the sport by promoting, governing, and nurturing blackball.

The vice-chairperson of the SABF Gauteng, Jo-Anne Reynolds, said they believe that everyone, regardless of background, gender, or age, should be able to access blackball and their commitment lies in fostering a polite and caring atmosphere that benefits players, officials, volunteers, and fans.

Certificates of honour were issued.

“Our dream is for blackball to become a popular, nationally acknowledged sport in our multi-cultural country and where everyone doing it feels recognised and appreciated. On the global stage, we are honoured to be an International Blackball Federation (IBF) member, connecting us to blackball enthusiasts and organisations worldwide. This affiliation allows us to participate in international events, exchange knowledge, and contribute to the global growth of blackball,” said Reynolds.

Some Alberton residents received recognition on the day.

As a devoted group with a long history, SABFG is a part of the South African Confederation of Cue Sports (SACCS), which promotes excellence in cue sports. SACCS, in turn, is affiliated with the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee, reinforcing our dedication to promoting blackball at national and international levels.

The SABF Gauteng athletes were recognised.

Capping the athletes, the president of Gauteng Sporting Confederation, Vivian Lottering, said he believes sports can be an effective way to bring about social change. Sports have the power to improve communities at a local level.

“I believe equal opportunity should be provided for all our athletes by ensuring skilled administrators with a passion for sport are developed. I believe in an all-inclusive style where everyone’s opinion is valuable,” he said.
There were junior and senior tournaments on the day of the ceremony.
