Church and band hope to save teens’ lives
Defying Death campaign will host a concert that will see five talented bands perform on the day
GENESIS Family Church teamed up with Christian melodic deathcore metal band, Forfeit Thee Untrue, to host a concert on Saturday as part of its anti-suicide and anti-drug campaign, Defying Death.
The campaign aims to raise awareness on the reality and high rate of suicide and drug abuse among teenagers.
The Defying Death team acknowledges that topics such as suicide and drugs, as well as associated themes such as Satanism, depression, anxiety, etc, are subjects that many would rather sweep under the rug or choose to ignore, but just because society may choose to ignore them or isn’t comfortable to talk about them, it does not make them go away. We need to tackle this problem head on and save lives.
On the day, Forfeit Thee Untrue, who are based in Benoni and signed to a US record label, will perform live on stage, as well as four other bands. Over and above the music, Elim Clinic will be present to reach out to those in need of advice or guidance with regards to addiction or substance abuse.
SADAG (South African Depression and Anxiety Group) will be supplying the Defying Death team with information pamphlets and brochures.
The event will be held at Genesis Park (41 Trig Road, Pomona) and will begin at 11am. There is no entrance fee.
