Family, friends, dancers and fans pay tribute to Tembisa dancer

Moses, who was a member of the Tembisa Revolution dance group, popularly known for Pansula dance, died on September 14.

Moses “Ta-More” Moeng was laid to rest on September 19 at the Mooifontein Cemetery.

Moses, who was a member of the Tembisa Revolution dance group, popularly known for Pansula dance, died on September 14.

According to his family, the Tembisa Revolution member was found dead in his car which was parked in the garage.

“He died from an accidental inhalation of the car’s exhaust emissions,” said Nthabiseng Sompa.

“We had just completed our last performance for Idols SA season 11,” said Abel Vilakazi, a fellow dancer.

Mr Lloyd Thabede, a family member, said the 27-year-old was a father, friend and a brother who was born in Springs and raised in Tembisa.

“He grew up as a clever child but he chose the arts as a career path instead of academics,” he said.

Mr Thabede said Moses became a father in 2014.

The former cashier went into retail immediately after grade 12 and after a while he discovered his passion for dance and joined a local group called the Tembisa Cultural Group.

In 2003, Moses met with friends to form the Tembisa Revolution group, a dance group that worked hard to establish the Pansula style as a recognised dance style by using various props to complement their dance routines.

“They achieved a lot as a group. They won many competitions and even traveled internationally,” said Mr Thabede.

“We traveled extensively in 2013 and in 2014 we signed a deal at Gold Reef City as residence entertainers for patrons,” said Abel.

He said being part of Tembisa Revolution made Moses more humble and he became a role model to the young children in Tembisa and, as a result, they started dance classes for aspiring young pansulas.
