According to Norkem Park SAPS spokesman, Capt Lesibana Molokomme, it is alleged by the mother that the two were at Wimpy at the shopping centre on the corner of Strydom Street and Mooifontein Road when the girl disappeared.
“The mother said she was having some drinks and her daughter was playing with other kids on the jumping castle when she went missing,” explained Molokomme.
“The police immediately established a joint operation in search of the child. The search consisted of CPF members, security companies, the child protection unit and neighbourhood watches. The search continued throughout the night until the next day at about 8am,” added Molokomme.
He said the missing child was spotted walking along Malvina Street, Birchleigh North, by a motorist.
“The child was identified by the clothes she was wearing when she was reported missing. It was easy for him to identify her as he had received her picture and clothing description on a WhatsApp group.
The child was taken to the police station and Tembisa SAPS Child Protection Unit was called to interview the child before she was taken to hospital for a check-up.
“The girl said she left the place where she was playing on Sunday at about 5pm and went to a family friend On Malvina Street to sleep there for the night,” added Molokomme.
