“I love modelling and I would love to see myself being Miss SA in the future,” added Thwala.

Her mother, Refilwe Thwala, said she was happy for her child’s achievement and she will continue to support her in modelling.

“The competition was not easy but I am happy that it gave me lots of confidence and to continue believing in myself. I love modelling because it exposes us to the community and we get to meet those professional models making it in the industry,” added Mkhize.

Meanwhile, Khoza said she was elated to have won the title in her first attempt at modelling.

“My love for modelling is because it brings us more responsibility to work for charity organisations. It was a nice experience to be part of the pageant and I thank the people who encouraged me to enter,” added Khoza.

Miss Moana Beauty Pageant founder and organiser Zinnia Makhanya said she formed the pageant to motivate young children to follow their dreams and to never give up until they get what they want in life.

“My aim is to motivate these young girls and teenagers to feel free and speak up whenever they have problems. I want them to have confidence and to respect themselves and others. Do not engage in early romantic affairs, substance abuse and crime,” added Makhanya.

Makhanya said the girls were judged based on their smiles, confidence, best dressed, and personality.

“Children have lots of talent. All they need is support at an early age. I am encouraging all of the children who took part in the pageant to never give up. It is just the beginning. They should follow their dreams and what their hearts desire. Anything is possible, you shouldn’t be discouraged by others,” said Makhanya.

Makhanya further said she would like to thank the people who helped her to have made the event a success.

“I have the interest of the community at heart and I would like to work with various stakeholders in order to expose children’s talent in the Tembisa township,” said Makhanya.
