Join walk to save Edleen girl’s (8) eyesight
Her parents located a clinic in Germany which has been treating patients with the same condition.
An eight-year-old Edleen girl could face blindness unless her parents can raise R250 000 before the end of the year.
Nelani van den Raad has been diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, a condition causing her retina to deteriorate rapidly, causing eventual blindness.
According to her mother, Vicky Ackermann, they located a clinic in Germany which has been treating patients with the same condition.
Although only trials for her condition is currently available, the family feels this is a good option for her to try and maintain some of her eye sight.
Nelani, a learner at Laerskool Edleen, uses her peripheral vision in order to see most of the time, as her central vision is the problem.
“Our aim is to take her for treatment before the end of the year in order to avoid sending her to a special needs school,” said Vicky.
In order to raise funds, a pub to pub walk will be hosted on August 31 at 10am.
The entry fee is R50 and can be paid on the day of the walk. The walk will start at Prime Time 2 in Norkem Park. The group will then proceed to Harvester, Prime Time 1 and back to Prime Time 2.
