Man warns community about identity theft
He said even the Department of Home Affairs won't help him.
A man cannot open a bank account due to identity theft resulting from a lost ID book.
Mcebisi Shiqela said he discovered that someone uses his identity when he tried to open an account with one of the banks.
“I went to open a bank account in one of the banks and I was told I already have an account with them.
“I told them that I don’t have an account with them.
When they checked the details of the account holder they discovered it was the same as mine but the fingerprints were not mine,” said a worried Shiqela.
He said the bank promised to trace the account holder but they never got back to him.
Shiqela obtained a new ID smart card but still the bank won’t help him.
“I have sent a letter to SABC’s Cutting Edge asking for help but they never got back to me either,” said Shiqela.
He said even the Department of Home Affairs won’t help him.
He is appealing to the public not to take it lightly when they lose their IDs. He said they must report it immediately.
Shiqela is hoping that one day he will find someone to help him trace the person who stole his identity and sort this mess out.
